The 2006/2007 short mat bowls season is now in full swing and sixteen teams gathered at Banham Community Centre [on Sunday 22 October] to compete in the triples tournament of the Breckland Short Mat Bowls League. With each club in the league being allowed to enter two triples teams there was keen competition between the clubs to see who would come away as winners this year.
After the round-robin stages there were four teams left to compete in the semi-finals - Banham, Wymondham and two teams from Watton. It turned out that the two Watton teams had to face each other in one of the semis with the team skipped by Ron Harvey having a comprehensive win by 15 shots to 2 shots over their club members skipped by Mike Bransby.
The other semi was a much closer affair with the outcome depending on a very close measure on the last end. Eventually the umpire and his set of feeler gauges found in favour of Wymondham and the Banham triple lost out by 5 shots to 3 shots.
In the final the Watton triple of Roger Braham, Bryan Dibble and Ron Harvey managed to keep in front throughout and eventually beat Wymondham (Chris Foster, Shirley Foster and Debbie Phillips) by 14 shots to 5 shots.
